Women: Herstory (Pt.3)
Our amazing woman of this week is Gina Hepburn.
I entered the beauty industry through my teenage daughter's makeup hobby, her love for makeup was an opportunity we used to strengthen our bond. My daughter's hobby quickly became my obsession!
I originally started making lip gloss in my then upgraded to making lipsticks. After being asked where I got my lipsticks from a number of times, I knew what I was doing was more than a hobby, it was something that had the ability to become a business. This later led to the creation of QueensLyfe Cosmetics. I believe that makeup is not one gender fits all, nor is it one shade fits all.
The vision is for QueensLyfe Cosmetics to become a global leading cosmetics company where woman can discover bold and vibrant makeup, to express their individuality, be their own trendsetter and show up in the world bold, fearless and free.
How do you empower other women using your platform?
My goal is to use my platform to encourage women to embrace their beauty. My motto is that makeup is to enhance beauty, not create it.
What advice would you give your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to start my entrepreneur journey earlier. I really wish I would have started in my twenties.
Who/ what inspires you?
My family is my biggest inspiration. I do what I do with the thought of one day being able to provide and fulfill all their needs.
How do you overcome adversity/ challenges?
I overcome adversity with much prayer and spiritual guidance from my mom.
What is your definition of a girl boss?
A girl boss is someone who doesn't let rejection deter her from her goals.
Female empowerment is:
Encouraging and cheering on your fellow lady boss.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a business? Pursue their passion?
The best advice I can give a new entrepreneur is to make it their due diligence and learn as much information about their industry as possible. Being a step ahead of the curve is key.
What quote speaks to you?
The best way to predict your future is to create it ~Ab Lincoln
How is your work/life balance?
It's a struggle to balance my personal life with my business. I am still learning how to separate the two. But I guess when you love what you do, there is no need to separate from your passion.
Self-care, what is your favorite form?
Self-care for me is having free time to myself and cuddling up with my dog. I enjoy those moments so much.
